VERMONT OPEN LIVING

BURLINGTON, VERMONT

A traditional cape is transformed from having compartmentalized small rooms into a bright open living space. With the removal of the kitchen wall, the kitchen was enlarged to flow into the adjacent old dining area. With a gracious soap stone island, ample prep space is provided for many family feasts. A clean white subway tile with grey grout and a combination of open shelving and closed cabinetry bring a modern spin on traditional classic design.

The focal point in the cozy living room was a small painted brick fireplace. The surround was designed with new marble diamond pattern tile, painted wood shiplap and trim and a natural finished mantel.

Adjacent to the existing living space was a winterized sun room. The space was divided into a dining and small mud room entry from the garage. A new large picture window allows ample light to flow in. With the replacing the existing interior sliding glass door with an open archway, the new dining space flows into the kitchen to complete the open living concept renovation.
